Maintain warehouse area with orderly stacking and good housekeeping; ensure all shipments are correctly staged, checked, and loaded properly; perform duties to provide material handling services for warehouse shipping and receiving handling activities. Ensure that Material Handlers are operating forklift and walkie safety at all times following all safety policies and procedures. This position reports to Cross Dock Supervisor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Properly receive, unload, and load shipments in/out of the Cross Dock. Experience with WMS (Warehouse Management Systems). Knowledge of QMS (Quality Management Systems) and Lean Warehousing. Experience operating material handling equipment and using an RF scanner.
- Flexible to work 10 to 12 hour shifts when necessary and not afraid of heights.
- Load and unload RJW trucks/trailers safely and efficiently using proper procedures, including outside carriers' equipment.
- Comply with the company's safety policies while using lifting devices (forklifts and scissor lifts) and maintain clean initiative standards.
- Oversee storing stock properly in the warehouse and moving product into the dock staging lanes or racks. Learn day-to-day warehouse operations.
- Verify orders are complete and accurate.
- Unload, load, and/or pick each customer order in the most effective manner possible to minimize shipping costs and ensure product safety.
- Other tasks as assigned by supervisor or manager.
- Operate forklifts safely and efficiently following all OSHA regulations and RJW safety policies and procedures.
- 2-4 years in a warehouse environment.
- Good stable work and attendance record. Possess a sense of urgency, accountability, and ability to work with limited supervision.
- General understanding of computers and handheld RF equipment.
- Ability to work as part of a team and lead. Must be able to read, write, and understand English.
- Attention to detail and quality; good communication, clear and concise, problem resolution, and people skills.
- Flexibility in working overtime when needed, and providing coverage to other shifts.
- PC skills helpful. Ability to work in a fast-paced warehouse.
High School Diploma or general education diploma (GED). Warehousing certifications a plus. Experience in building pallets with stock and breaking down stock to fill independent orders. Experienced in cross docking freight process.
Language SkillsAbility to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization. Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to determine root cause and corrective action.
Computer SkillsKnowledge of business operating systems, Internet software, word processing, and spreadsheet software.
Physical DemandsMust be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. Must be on feet for a full shift (8 hours). Must be able to work in excess of continuous 8 hours when required. Must be in sound physical health as determined by a certified licensed physician with no evidence of substance use.
Work EnvironmentOccasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level will range from quiet to moderately loud.
