Overview
Material Handler Lead role responsible for maintaining warehouse organization, staging shipments, and supporting material handling activities. The position requires safe operation of forklift and walkie equipment and adherence to safety policies. Reports to the shift supervisor.
ShiftB Shift, Wednesday–Saturday, 5:00am–3:30pm. Pay: $21/hr.
Job PurposeMaintain warehouse area with orderly stacking and good housekeeping; ensure shipments are staged, checked, and loaded properly; provide material handling support for warehouse shipping and receiving activities. Ensure material handlers operate forklifts and walkies safely at all times following safety policies and procedures.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Receive, unload, move, and tag incoming parts and equipment.
- Operate with WMS (Warehouse Management Systems); knowledge of QMS (Quality Management Systems) and Lean Warehousing; operate material handling equipment and use RF scanner.
- Pull and stage parts for production and complete requisitions for parts shortages.
- Collect and package inventory and purchased items for shipment.
- Comply with safety policies while using lifting devices (forklifts and scissor lifts) and maintain clean initiative standards.
- Learn day-to-day warehouse operations.
- Verify orders are complete and accurate.
- Pick customer orders efficiently to minimize shipping costs and ensure product safety.
- Other tasks as assigned by supervisor or manager.
- Possess a sense of urgency, accountability, and ability to work with limited supervision.
- General understanding of computers and handheld RF equipment.
- Ability to work as part of a team and lead.
- Read, write, and understand English.
- Attention to detail and quality.
- Strong communication, problem resolution, and interpersonal skills.
- Flexibility to work overtime and cover other shifts as needed.
- PC skills helpful.
- Experience with sit-down forklifts and walkies.
- Experience building pallets, stocking, and breaking down stock to fill orders.
- Experience in cross-docking freight process.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced warehouse.
- 2–4 years in a warehouse environment.
- Good stable work and attendance record.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Warehousing certifications a plus.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business material and write reports and procedures. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, and customers. Must be able to communicate, read, write, and speak English.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic and interpret rates, ratios, and percentages; ability to read bar graphs.
- Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions; determine root causes and corrective actions.
- Knowledge of business operating systems, internet software, word processing, and spreadsheet software.
- Occasional lifting up to 60 pounds; regular standing for the shift; ability to work overtime when required.
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles; noise level ranges from quiet to moderately loud.
