911 Dispatcher Job Description

This safety-sensitive position is responsible for receiving emergency and administrative calls from the public and dispatching the appropriate emergency personnel.

• Receives, monitors, and dispatches radio communications traffic for Police, EMS, Sheriff, and Fire, including all 911 calls.
• Receives and screens incoming telephone calls from the public and other public safety agencies, categorizes and prioritizes calls during emergencies.
• Dispatches the appropriate emergency personnel to incident locations, provides emergency medical instructions to callers prior to arrival of emergency personnel as appropriate.
• Maintains a continuous log of incoming telephone and radio calls, logs incoming calls for participating agencies.
• Monitors and routes incoming messages from national and state computer networks.
• Checks, confirms, adds, and deletes in‑house warrants.
• Participates in training exercises to include in‑house training, GPS tracking, AWIN, CAD updates, ACIC recertification, etc.
• Completes work site cleanup.
• Updates contact list.
• Performs any other related duties as required or assigned.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Equivalent to four years of high school or GED, with particular emphasis during high school in office skills, shop skills, or others, plus 7 to 11 months of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to read, analyze, and understand general business/company‑related articles and professional journals; ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
