Position SummaryThe Athletic Academic Coordinator for the Charles Luter Family Academic Success Center will provide comprehensive academic support to multiple sports and their student-athletes. This position is responsible for delivering individualized academic guidance, monitoring NCAA eligibility, and tracking academic progress toward degree completion. The coordinator will report directly to the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Student Services.
Duties & ResponsibilitiesAcademic Eligibility & Degree Progress Monitoring
- Maintain accurate degree plans and monitor NCAA Progress Toward Degree benchmarks (6, 18, 24 credit hours and percentage requirements).
- Participate in the eligibility certification process for assigned student-athletes.
- Evaluate high school and junior college transcripts to determine initial eligibility and transfer credit.
- Assist with administrative responsibilities related to academic eligibility and compliance.
Academic Reporting & Communication
- Produce academic reports for coaches and athletic administrators, including grades, study hall attendance, tutoring participation, and progress updates.
- Communicate effectively with coaches regarding student-athlete academic status, concerns, and support needs.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and campus partners to support student-athlete academic success.
Recruiting Support
- Assist coaches during the recruitment process by meeting with prospective student-athletes and families during official and unofficial visits.
- Provide accurate information about academic programs, support services, and eligibility requirements.
Compliance & Integrity
- Maintain strict adherence to University, SBC, and NCAA rules and regulations to ensure academic integrity and ethical operations.
- Uphold confidentiality and safeguarding of student records.
Student Support & Risk Identification
- Build effective relationships with student-athletes from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Identify at‑risk student-athletes and make timely referrals to appropriate support services.
- Monitor academic performance and work proactively to address concerns.
Additional Responsibilities
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission of the Charles Luter Family Academic Success Center.
Knowledge of basic computer software applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
Working knowledge of NCAA Division I academic eligibility policies and procedures.
Ability to learn and effectively use systems such as Banner, Degree Works, Teamworks, and all Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to identify at‑risk student-athletes and make appropriate referrals to campus or departmental resources.
Strong interest in supporting the academic, personal, and professional development of student-athletes.
Strong work ethic with excellent written, oral, and presentation communication skills.
High attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
Familiarity with NCAA academic eligibility requirements and compliance expectations.
General Days/HoursMonday - Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Regular and reliable attendance. Additional hours as requested/needed may include evenings and weekends.
