Position SummaryThe Department of Art + Design at Arkansas State University seeks applications for a 3D Technician to begin August 2026.
Duties & ResponsibilitiesThe department of Art + Design seeks candidates for a full-time, 9-month renewable position as 3D Technician. The successful candidate will oversee the technical operations, monitoring, and safety protocols of the department’s 3D studios. While the primary focus will be the wood shop, responsibilities will also extend to the metal shop/foundry and ceramics areas.
The 3D Technician will provide shop monitoring hours, coordinate departmental safety procedures, and ensure that studios, faculty, and staff comply with Environmental Health & Safety, EPA, and OSHA regulations.
Additional responsibilities include:
organizing and maintaining inventories of tools and equipment across classrooms and shop facilities in coordination with faculty; repairing equipment and submitting work orders as necessary; ensuring that all tools remain in safe working condition; identifying and ordering supplies needed for safety, equipment repair, and general maintenance of 3D shops and classrooms; coordinating supply orders; tracking expenditures for bulk materials; and managing replacement parts and equipment for 3D facilities.
The Technician will also work with department faculty on special projects related to the organization, repair, and maintenance of all labs.
In addition to administrative and technical duties, the Technician will teach no more than one course per semester in the 3D area.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities- Operation and maintenance of woodshop: safety protocol for operating power tools, miter saws, table saws, sanders, etc.
- Operation and maintenance of metal shop: power tools, welders, grinders, sanders, foundry, etc.
- Operation and maintenance of ceramic studio equipment and other preparatory tasks.
- Monday - Friday
- 8:00 a.m.
- 5:00 p.m. Additional hours as requested and/or needed - Regular and reliable attendance
- MFA in Sculpture, Ceramics, or 3D art (Sculpture preferred)
- Must possess excellent organizational skills and communication skills
- Ability to manage shop work, and coordinate and execute shop use hours
- Ability to lift 50 lbs
- Experience in working in a woodshop and metal shop
- At least one year of teaching experience at the university level which could include GTA and adjunct teaching
- Experience working in a ceramic shop
- Previous experience ordering materials for studio consumption
