The Director of Adult Education reports to the Provost/VC for Academic Affairs and has responsibility for the development, coordination, oversight, and assessment of Adult Education programs, courses, and faculty for campuses at Newport, Marked Tree, and Jonesboro and all other ASUN Adult Education instructional locations.
The Director of Adult Education must demonstrate strong leadership, management, and development skills to support the programs and faculty in teaching, collaborative partnerships, and service. This role supports the College's mission to provide and ensure quality educational programs for ASUN's various constituencies.
This position is an administrative appointment and will be housed on the Jonesboro campus but will work on all ASUN Adult Education campus locations as well as other outreach partner organizations as needed. This position will provide direct supervision of the faculty and staff at all Adult Education instructional locations.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Serves as the Director of Adult Education for Arkansas State University-Newport.
- Promotes, develops, and assesses quality programs that align with state and federal requirements.
- Cultivates and maintains strong academic and community partnerships to ensure local support and demand for the Adult Education program.
- Represents the Adult Education Department and serves as a conduit for information to and from other Academic Divisions, faculty, and staff.
- Exercises effective administrative and management skills through collegial communication with other ASUN departments.
- Actively participates in partnerships geared toward resource acquisition, support, and funding to sustain program infrastructure, growth, and sustainability.
- Models effective decision-making skills through the use of the principles of shared leadership through open communication.
- Leads implementation of plans for assessment and improvement of student learning in the Adult Education department, assists in accreditation efforts and oversees regular program reviews as well as monthly and annual reports as defined by state standards.
- Prepares and recommends for approval the budget for the Adult Education department.
- Recommends qualified faculty for appointment, promotion, and retention.
- Oversees educational facilities and coordinates appropriate safety guidelines, training, and equipment in conjunction with the Division of Finance and Administration.
- Facilitates the student grievance process for issues within the Adult Education department.
- Coordinates special events related to the Adult Education department.
- Serves on college-wide committees, special project teams, state and local committees, and community service and civic committees as needed, and acts as a professional and positive representative of the College.
- Develops and maintains data, records, and reports needed for programmatic approval and accreditation.
- Coordination of course schedules for all Adult Education programs.
- Safeguards the financial health of the division by proactively monitoring, analyzing, and reviewing operating budgets, enrollment-driven revenue forecasts, and expenditures.
- Exercises prudent stewardship over divisional assets, instructional resources, and capital equipment, actively mitigating financial risk and limiting institutional liability.
- Identifies and pursues alternative revenue streams, including grants and external funding, to supplement and maximize divisional resources.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education And Experience
- Required:
A minimum Master's Degree in education, administration, or a related field - Preferred:
Adult Education licensure
Qualifications
All adult education directors/coordinators must have a minimum of a master's degree in education, administration, or related field. If not already licensed in adult education, administrators must become licensed in adult education by the Arkansas Department of Education, Professional Licensure, within three (3) years of the date of initial employment as an adult education administrator, showing academic progress toward completion annually.
In addition, all newly hired directors/coordinators must have five years of supervisory experience and five years of experience as a teacher or administrator in education or a related field. Any exception to the experience requirements must be approved by the Adult Education Division Senior Management Team.
Responsibility For Funds, Property And Equipment
Shares responsibility for the maintenance and upkeep of the lab equipment and facilities.
