Student Development Specialist
This is a full‑time, twelve‑month position reporting to the Learning Center Coordinator. The successful candidate will serve as an academic advisor, educational planner, and advocate for prospective, new, and current students, providing comprehensive advising and support concerning academic plans and coaching students toward graduation. Advising may occur online, by phone, or in‑person.
The role also includes tutoring students in English and social science courses (English, psychology, sociology, history, etc.).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Provide holistic advising to students using NACADA standards and best practices.
- Assist students in identifying strengths, interests, and formulating personalized educational plans.
- Help students select classes and develop strategies for academic success.
- Collaborate with the Director of Advising and Learning and other advisors to maintain advising degree plans across campus locations.
- Tutor and mentor students to promote success and retention in English, writing, and social sciences.
- Work with faculty members and academic deans to develop and deliver high‑quality academic advising professional development programs.
- Assist with Advising and Learning Center resources, including textbooks, Canvas LMS, software, and hardware.
- Schedule and lead classroom visits to promote advising and tutoring services.
- Serve on campus committees as assigned.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in English, writing, social science, or related field.
- Master’s degree.
- Academic advising experience.
- Teaching or tutoring experience in secondary or higher education.
