Adjunct Faculty Member – Surgical Technology Program

North West Arkansas Community College (NWACC) seeks an experienced and dedicated Adjunct Faculty Member for its Surgical Technology Program. The part‑time position will collaborate with the Dean of Health Professions to establish the program, including inventory of equipment, curriculum development, room design, and overall program development.

Essential Duties
  • Instructional Delivery: Teach courses in the Surgical Technology Program, including lecture and lab components on anatomy, physiology, surgical procedures, sterile technique, and patient safety. Develop and deliver course content that aligns with the curriculum and industry standards, utilizing diverse teaching strategies and technologies to foster student engagement.

  • Student Support: Provide academic and professional guidance to students, ensuring proper training in surgical techniques and equipment during lab sessions. Evaluate student performance through exams, assignments, skill demonstrations, and practical evaluations.

  • Clinical Coordination: Collaborate with local healthcare facilities to arrange student clinical rotations and internships. Monitor and supervise students during clinical placements to ensure learning objectives are met.

  • Curriculum and Assessment: Assist in reviewing and updating the curriculum, participating in program assessment and accreditation activities as required.

  • Professional Development: Stay current with advancements in surgical technology and health sciences. Participate in faculty meetings, workshops, and professional development opportunities, and remain current in academic or program discipline by attending conferences and maintaining licensure or certification.

  • Community and Industry Engagement: Maintain relationships with local dental practices, professional organizations, and community stakeholders to secure clinical placement opportunities and represent the program at local, state, and national meetings.

  • Compliance and Reporting: Ensure program compliance with state, federal, and institutional policies. Prepare and submit required reports, including accreditation updates, program outcomes, and licensure pass rates. Maintain program records of student achievements and employer satisfaction surveys.

    Activities:

    Participate in college professional development activities, advising students, keeping on–campus hours, serving on standing and ad‑hoc committees, mentoring new faculty, attending meetings, and performing other academically related duties as assigned.

Rate of Pay
  • Level1 (Cert./Licensure in Discipline): $32.00/hr
  • Level2 (Licensure+AAS Degree): $35.00/hr
  • Level3 (Bachelor's Degree): $39/hr
  • Level4 (Master's Degree): $42/hr
  • Level5 (Doctorate Degree): $45/hr
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in Surgical Technology or a related field (Bachelor’s degree preferred)
  • 3–5years of experience working as a surgical technologist in a clinical setting
  • 2–3years of prior teaching experience in a higher education or technical school setting
Licenses/Certifications
  • Current certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or another recognized certifying body
Preferred Qualifications

5years of teaching experience. Other job‑related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements, except for certification or licensure requirements, upon approval of the qualifications review committee.
