Southern Cast Products is seeking a motivated CAD Designer to join our engineering team. In this role, you will use Solid Works to design mold packages, foundry patterns, and other items used in our sand casting process. Before moving into full-time design work, you will spend time on the foundry floor learning our molding, core-making, and casting processes firsthand—this hands-on experience is essential to designing tooling that works in real production.

This is a great opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career in foundry engineering and design.

Responsibilities:
  • Train on the foundry floor to learn molding, core-making, and casting processes
  • Create and modify 3D models and drawings of patterns, core boxes, and tooling in Solid Works
  • Work with engineering and production teams to translate customer part prints into castable tooling designs
  • Apply casting principles (shrinkage, draft, parting lines, coring) to designs
  • Review and redline drawings for accuracy and manufacturability
  • Maintain organized design files and revision records
Qualifications:
  • Strong Proficiency in Solid Works
  • Ability to read and interpret part drawings and blueprints
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Associate's degree or certificate in CAD/drafting/mechanical design preferred, or equivalent hands-on experience
  • Willingness to work on the foundry floor during training period
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Interest in creating and applying AI tools to solve traditional foundry challanges preferred
