Overview

At Great Dane, we rely on makers and we’re inviting them to join our expanding team. This role supports trailer production by directing and managing activities in the area (e.g., Axle Department, Combo Start Line, Sidewall line) to meet the production schedule and ensure trailers align with Engineering drawings.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure individual and employee compliance with all safety rules and requirements.
  • Manage and direct the activities of employees to ensure production, quality, and safety requirements are consistently met.
  • Define staffing plans for the week based on production volume, prepare the line for the next shift, manage rework/defects/scrap, implement preventative measures, follow Lean Manufacturing activities, perform safety observations, define and review standard work with the ME department, update training matrices, and maintain area cleanliness using 5S principles.
  • Supervise in accordance with company policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, training, planning, assigning, directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, grievance resolution, and problem resolution.
  • Attend weekly safety meetings and communicate topics to the group, ensuring adherence to safety guidelines and disciplining violations as needed.
  • Attend weekly Review Meetings to compare Sales Order information and Bill of Materials to identify discrepancies and resolve them before jobs start on the floor.
  • Coordinate with other Supervisors and the Superintendent to resolve issues that could impact the production schedule.
  • Collaborate with the Engineering Department to resolve build-process issues that could affect quality, safety, or performance.
  • Communicate with the Production Manager and the ME/Maintenance Manager to address tooling, quality, and safety concerns while maintaining the production schedule.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Education:

    High School or GED required.
  • Experience:

    Team Leader experience;
    Graduate of Team Leader Academy or college degree; annual review must reflect “Meets Expectations” or above; proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge and skills in production processes, safety rules, inspection criteria, and plant-wide initiatives; ability to read blueprints and customer specifications; ability to operate computers and basic software (database, spreadsheet, word-processing, email).
  • Ability to instruct, direct, supervise, and lead individuals and teams; self-directed with initiative; ability to organize and manage tasks; aptitude to learn and retain new information.
  • Certifications in Emergency First Aid, CPR, and AED as required (provided after hire); additional certifications (e.g., welding, painting) as needed to perform the job.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write effectively in English.

    None.

    Ability to stand and move about on concrete 8-12 hours a day; sit, speak, hear, see, bend, reach, grasp, stoop, kneel, twist, crawl, carry, climb, work overhead, push, and pull. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally. Ability to maneuver large parts and assemblies (up to 50 pounds) by pushing, pulling, and flipping. ADA accommodations available.
  • Work environment: PPE required; exposure to potential hazards and noise; potential for contact with chemicals; shared workspace.
