GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

The purpose of this safety sensitive (SS) position is to assist with repair and maintaining city streets.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Collects leftover and broken asphalt for transport to the landfill.
  • Uses a concrete saw to cut asphalt.
  • Shovels asphalt behind roller.
  • Patches potholes.
  • Mows and weed-eats rights-of-way areas.
  • Cleans right-of-way areas with chain saws and hand tools; picks up litter and debris after storms and special events.
  • Assists with right-of-way and drainage system maintenance; performs masonry duties and clears catch basins.
  • Places signs to reroute traffic around work sites; flags traffic.
  • Operating a city vehicle is required for the essential functions.
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum requirement; general educational background without high school completion, plus 0 to 6 months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Ability to read a limited number of words and recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers; ability to write and speak simple sentences as a means for basic communication.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers. Ability to perform these mathematical skills using money and other forms of measurement.

CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS

Ability to use common sense understanding in order to carry out simple multi-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with limited variables.
