Position Summary
Provides Health and Physical Education instructional support to students. Utilizes current strategies and theories to plan and implement lessons. Required to provide effective delivery of sports/activity coaching to K-12 secondary school age children. This position reports to the Principal and indirectly to the Athletic Director.
Key Responsibilities- Instructs students using various teaching methods including lecture, audiovisual aids, demonstration and materials to supplement presentations relative to specific content fields.
- Assigns lessons and corrects homework; administers tests to evaluate students' progress, records results and issues reports to inform parents of progress. Maintains discipline in classroom and supervises behavior outside classroom (halls, bus, lunch/cafeteria, rest rooms).
- Coaches student athletes in sport(s) or co-curricular activity. Works with the coaching staff to set rules, policies and regulations for the teams.
- Prepares course outlines and objectives according to curriculum guidelines or state/local requirements.
- Guides and encourages secondary school age student athletes to make appropriate decisions about further participation in sport(s) and co-curricular activities.
- Conducts parent/teacher conferences to review student progress, performance and behavior problems. Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences and teacher training workshops.
- Works closely with partners to monitor the impact of delivery and healthy lifestyles.
- Performs all other duties as assigned and required to perform the above services.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or higher required.
- Completed GHSA "Preparation/FIT" and "Principles of Coaching" exams for the coached sport.
- Minimum of one (1) year of teaching experience preferred.
- Coach meets all GHSA Constitution and By-Laws policies and regulations.
- Certified by the State of Georgia in Education T-4 to T-7 and content-area specialization required by GaPSC.
- Georgia High School Association Coaching exam required.
- Excellent classroom management skills required.
- Responsible for multiple functions of supervision (athletes, equipment and staff) with high accountability for effective operation and results.
- Normal classroom/school setting.
- Must be able to stand and walk approximately seven to seven and a half hours per day; light duty - occasionally sitting at a desk or table; intermittently standing, sitting, or stooping. Light lifting or carrying up to 20 lbs.
