Special Education Paraprofessional
Under general supervision, serves as a support to the assigned classroom teacher or instructional area in providing educational opportunities for each student within Special Education. This position reports to the Principal or designee.
Conducts small group or individual classroom activities with students based on lesson plans developed by the teacher. Assists with preparation of materials for instruction (including the copying/duplicating of materials, construction of bulletin boards, grading work, etc.)
Performs special duties as required for meeting the unique needs of specific student populations; e.g., lifting physically disabled students, toileting/personal hygiene assistance, using physical restraints or other specialized behavior management techniques.
Types and processes correspondence, reports, orders, circulation, and catalog cards. Operates the computerized circulation system and records. Files catalog cards, vertical file material, and order cards. Assists in inventory of materials and equipment. Assumes responsibility for operation of the media center and supervision of students in the approved absence of the media specialist
Assists with routine record keeping, housekeeping; assists with school-wide supervision such as loading/unloading buses.
All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.
One of the below requirements must be met:
Paraprofessional experience serving school age children desirable. Bilingual or bicultural experience required for certain positions.
Must hold or be eligible for a GaPSC-issued Paraprofessional License. Eligibility is based on the education requirements outlined in Formal Education.
Note:
The Certification Team will apply for the Paraprofessional License upon hire.
Training and/or experience in special needs of disabled populations such as first aid, ability to perform a two person lift for students as needed, or behavior management preferred.
Light duty - On most occasions sitting at a desk or table; intermittent sitting, standing, or stooping. Moderate lifting or carrying; fifty (50) lbs. or less.
NOTE:
This is a grade 16, 190-day position that starts at a step 6 and pays for experience up to a step 8.
