Position: Teacher - Heavy Equipment Operator (High School)

Heavy Equipment Operation Instructor

This position provides instruction that emphasizes the blending of practical experiences, technical expertise, and academic rigor; ensures that students complete coursework in general education, professional education, and technology education. The instructor defines the current status of construction experiences in heavy equipment operation education; builds leadership capacity by developing a collaborative network of scholars who work to improve understanding of the process of learning and teaching of heavy equipment operation education.

This position reports to the Principal.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates/coordinates a rigorous Heavy Equipment Operation curriculum with career related instruction; assesses and provides for differentiation to assure student progress. Integrates core content academics and embeds high quality literature, experiences, and project-based learning assignments. Manages and maintains program's assigned equipment, software, and supplies.
  • Administers developmental testing programs, subject-specific formative/summative assessments, and industry-recognized technical skill assessments to evaluate students' industry certification competency levels attainment and/or the monitoring and development of individual learning growth and student progress towards achieving Individual Graduation Plan's (IGP) goals.
  • Sponsors/infuses co-curricular an active SkillsUSA Career Technical Student Organizational (CTSO) experiences for the purpose of leadership development, advanced technical skills attainment, workforce readiness preparation, and college career-readiness.
  • Maintains professional development competence through on-going educational and professional development training, as required for certification.
  • Establishes and maintains industry and post-secondary connections to promote/encourage students' participation in continuing education opportunities.
  • Engages, conducts, and documents minutes of the local school CTAE Advisory Committee for the curriculum's career-related activities support.
  • All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.

Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED required with appropriate industry-specific (Construction) education linked here required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of occupational work experience required; minimum of one (1) year of teaching experience preferred.
  • Makes recommendations or decisions which usually affect the entire department/school.
  • Must hold or be eligible for a GaPSC Certification in the content area of specialization.
  • Sound level of judgment required:
    Analytical/technical skills required.
  • Requires regular, frequent contact with internal personnel of influence, and decision-making responsibility. Excellent interpersonal skills are required.
  • Requires regular, frequent contact with parents, state and community leaders and decision-making responsibility. Excellent interpersonal skills are required.
  • Excellent classroom management required. May be designated as a lead teacher or trainer.
  • Applies, recommends and implements technology solutions based on industry trends to improve the effectiveness of the Transportation, Distribution, and Logistics field.
  • Constantly (Daily) responsibility for the welfare of others.
  • Normal classroom/school setting.
  • Will require travel for off-site training and student exposure opportunities.
  • Light duty – On most occasions sitting at a desk or table; intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping.
  • Light lifting or carrying; twenty (20) lbs. or less; routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities.
