Job purpose

Responsible for the oversight of the church’s entire Children’s Ministry and to ensure a smoothly operating, safe and effective program. The Director will recruit and train leaders who will touch children’s lives with God’s love, teach them God’s Word and provide fellowship with God’s people--laying a foundation that will keep children interested in the things of God and involved in church.

Duties and responsibilities

• Cast the vision for and be an advocate for the Children’s Ministry.
• Work with the pastoral staff to coordinate all church programs and functions in concertwith the church’s overall mission, vision, and purpose statement.
• Represent the interests of the children in the church’s care at all decision-makingmeetings and sessions.
• Participate in training opportunities and continuing education.
• Oversee and coordinate all aspects of the children’s ministry.
• Recruit and train volunteers who work with children in all aspects of children’s ministry and ensure adequate volunteer support and adult to children ratios.
• Organize training and planning sessions for children’s leaders/workers.
• Participate and attend scheduled staff and committee meetings.
• Implement and maintain the church’s Safe Sanctuary policy.
• Provide leadership and serve as shepherd to the Children’s Ministry Team.
• Approve all children’s ministries programs, curricula, and activities.
• Keep records of participation and manage the Children’s Ministry budget.
• Serve as pastor to the children in your care--praying, visiting, counseling, discipling, planning and leading children in worship.

• Must embrace Christian discipline and United Methodist doctrine and theology.
• A bachelor’s degree in a related field is desired.
• Must have vision and a demonstrated ability to plan, develop, coordinate, manage and implement a children’s ministry within the parameters of the United Methodist Church.
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, conflict management skills, and computer skills.
• Must possess a proven ability to work effectively with children, diverse individuals, and teams of volunteers.
• Must demonstrate a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
