CLASSIFICATION
TITLE:
INVESTIGATOR
PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION
The primary responsibility of this role is to conduct impartial investigations and support the preparation of ethical cases for indictment, prosecution, and serious misdemeanor offenses assigned to the Ethics Board. Additionally, the position assists Board Members and the Attorney in preparing cases for trial.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
* Provides criminal investigative support; prepares indictments for grand jury presentation; prepares accusation forms for attorney approval; prepares witness lists for trial; prepares reports and case summaries; prepares affidavits for subpoena; prepares and presents photographic
line-ups; obtains certified copies of criminal convictions on defendants.
* Reviews law enforcement officers' investigative reports; reviews victim and witness statements; participates in preliminary negotiations with defendants and defense attorneys.
* Interviews victims, witnesses, and law enforcement officers; contacts other parties related to the case.
* Conducts computer searches for suspects, defendants, and witnesses using automated criminal history databases, credit bureau, and Labor Department information systems.
* Transports evidence and testifies in court proceedings.
* Consults and meets with state crime lab personnel to evaluate test findings and results. Assists in duty phone calls.
* Conducts special and internal investigations at the direction of the Ethics Board; conducts, participates, and advises in wiretaps, secretive and sensitive investigations, and undercover and narcotics operations (as needed).
* Attends monthly Board meetings when required.
* Establishes and maintains an effective case file system to manage ongoing criminal investigations.
ADDITONAL FUNCTIONS
Performs other related duties as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's degree or equivalent 54 semester hours (90 quarter hours);
Bachelor's degree preferred. Current sworn P.O.S.T. certification preferred. Must obtain sworn P.O.S.T. certification and firearms qualifications within one (1) year of employment. Must maintain P.O.S.T. certification and firearms qualification.

Physical Ability:
Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may include extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
Sensory Requirements:
Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors:
Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
