Under the direction of a Sector Sergeant, this position provides law enforcement and police services to the school(s), school grounds and areas adjacent to the school(s); investigates allegations of criminal incidents per District and Clayton County Public Schools Police Department policies and procedures; enforces state and local laws; makes appropriate referrals to juvenile court and/or other governmental agencies; works to prevent juvenile delinquency through close contact and positive relationships with students;

develops crime prevention programs and conduct security inspections to deter criminal or delinquent activities; monitors crime statistics and work with local patrol officers, investigator’s and students together to design crime prevention strategies; establishes and maintains a close partnership with school administrators in order to provide for a safe school environment. This position reports to the Sergeant.

Be visible within the school community. Attends and participates in school functions. Builds working relationships with the school’s staff as well as with student and parent groups. Develops and implements classes in law related education to support the educational efforts of the faculty. Works closely with teachers in designing and presenting law-related topics and the role of police in our society.

Works with guidance counselors and other student support staff to assist students and to provide services to students involved in situations where referrals to service agencies are necessary. Assists in conflict resolution efforts. Initiate interaction with students in the classroom and general areas of the school building. Promotes the profession of police officer and be a positive role model. Increases the visibility and accessibility of police to the school community.

Conducts routine patrols of assigned facilities to include buildings, parking lots and District owned, leased, or rented equipment. Operates system equipment to include alarm systems, surveillance equipment, and patrol units when necessary. Coordinates security for crowd and vehicle control at extra-curricular activities and special events.

Assists other law enforcement agencies with incidents involving local criminal activity that may impact student or site safety. All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services

High School Diploma/GED required;
College degree preferred.

Minimum of three (3) years of successful law enforcement experience with High School Diploma/GED required or must have a minimum of two (2) years of successful law enforcement experience with a college degree.

Make decisions which usually affect the assigned department and many times affect outside assigned departments.

Must be at least 21 years of age. Georgia P.O.S.T. Certified. Peace Officer’s certification in good standing without any (open) current investigations required. Must possess a valid Driver's License.

Must be able to demonstrate the ability to apply critical thinking skills in rendering solutions to various issues that arise in the schools; must be able to effectively communicate with both public and school personnel; extensive communications (verbal and written) with students, staff and internal/external stakeholders is required; will be responsible for managing behavior of victims, witnesses and others when handling or…
