About the PositionPosition Title: Accountant
Department: Business Office
Reports to: Business Office Director/Controller
The mission of the Business Office is to account for institutional financial assets by providing sound management of the college’s financial resources, maintaining accounting systems, records, and related internal controls, and reporting relevant financial information to the college’s employees, departments, trustees, and constituents.
SummaryThis position works closely with departments across campus to ensure accurate and timely processing of daily receipts. This position also provides support for the maintenance of the general ledger and financial reporting. This role requires independent judgment and initiative to problem-solve and improve financial processes.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities- Knowledge of standard accounting principles and best practices.
- Competency in the use of Microsoft Excel and Word, and an aptitude for learning new systems.
- Ability to work with a high level of autonomy and collaboration.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate clearly and thoroughly.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively while under time constraints.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
- Minimum three years of accounting experience (five years or more preferred).
Physical Requirements
This position is primarily in a professional office setting, working with sensitive information. In this role, routine use of office equipment will be required, including a computer, photocopier, scanner, and telephone. The role requires prolonged computer use while sitting at a desk. Must be able to focus and concentrate with precision on a computer screen. Reaching, stooping, standing, kneeling, bending, twisting, and walking are all required.
This role typically works weekdays, but additional training may be required on occasion outside regular workdays.
