Position: Permanent Substitute Teacher

Term: 9 Months

Location: North Middle, Dover, Jefferson, Cecil Floyd Schools

Required

Certifications:

• Must have a valid Missouri Substitute Teacher certification or a valid Missouri Teacher Certification
• Cleared background check from the MO Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

Reports to: Building Principal

Responsibilities:

• Construct an encouraging learning environment in the absence of a teacher.
• Cover a variety of short-term and long-term assignments as needed.
• Perform additional duties when no substitute teacher assignments are available.
• Support the mission and values of Joplin Schools.
• Follow Board policies, state and federal laws, and school procedures.
• Properly supervise students at all times.
• Obey all safety rules and protect student welfare.
• Care for school property and maintain a professional environment.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, staff, and the community.
• Provide excellent customer service internally and externally.
• Comply with privacy rights and protect confidential information.
• Respond constructively to feedback and participate in professional development.
• Maintain accurate records and filing systems.
• Utilize district technology resources responsibly.
• Attend required meetings and adhere to scheduled times.
• Use math functions to solve practical problems as needed.
• Interpret and apply documents such as work orders and handbooks.

Essential Functions:

• Supervise students at all times.
• Take responsibility for instructing classes.
• Develop lesson plans and assignments.
• Maintain appropriate records, including grading and homework.
• Provide individualized and small group instruction.
• Organize classroom to promote learning.
• Familiarize with district curriculum and resources.
• Manage classroom behavior constructively.
• Encourage student participation and minimize distractions.
• Provide in-class and at-home assignments.
• Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and teacher institutes.
• Carry out all other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:

• Speak and hear in a classroom with multiple conversations.
• Move around the classroom.
• Read handwritten or printed material.
• Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.

Attendance: Regular availability and commitment to accepted/assigned absences is essential.

Conditions and Environment: The position is in a noisy, active school environment and may require occasional outdoor work for loading/unloading students and supervising recess.
