This position is selected for the Hiring Incentive Program. The incentive shall be in the amount of one thousand five hundred dollars ($1500.00). The hiring incentive will be paid (if funds are available) by the Department/Division which appoints the applicant. The hiring incentive is not available to current City employees.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities- Responds to customer complaints and inquiries.
- Responds to emergencies.
- Contacts dispatcher, contractors, and/or private service line owners to clarify requests; notifies of needed repair work, if applicable.
- Locates underground utilities in the field, identifies and marks service lines; completes necessary paperwork.
- Utilizes utility line detection equipment; utilizes maps and plats to locate utility mains and other facilities.
- Inspects and operates private service lines.
- Performs surveys and maintenance on public utility mains; completes seasonal maintenance.
- Locates underground water leaks through the use of an electronic leak detector.
- Locates water mains, services, valve boxes, etc. for the Water Division crews, contractors, and customers with electronic locators.
- Makes leak inspections inside of residential and commercial buildings.
- Shuts off water service to residential and commercial buildings.
- Makes pressure and flow investigations in residential and commercial buildings.
- Inspects and flushes fire hydrants.
- Inspects valve boxes and meter boxes.
- Conducts fire hydrant flow tests.
- These utilities include electrical circuits ranging in voltages from 120 volts to 2400 volts and fiber optic circuits.
- Reads and processes electronic work requests.
- Identifies live electricity and works around live electricity.
- Reads and interrupts mapping and branch circuits diagrams.
- Works in all weather climates and walks long distances while accurately marking underground utilities.
- Accurately records work with digital pictures and uploads to servers.
- Works with minimal supervision to accomplish work requests.

Requires the ability to process, calculate, compute, summate, and/or tabulate data and/or information. - Data Utilization:
Requires the ability to perform basic level of data analysis including the ability to review, classify, categorize, prioritize and/or reference data, statutes and/or guidelines and/or group, rank, investigate and diagnose. Requires discretion in determining and referencing such to established standards to recognize interactive effects and relationships. - Human Interaction:
Requires the ability to provide guidance, assistance and/or interpretation to others, such as coworkers and the public, on how to apply policies, procedures and standards to specific situations. - Equipment, Machinery, Tools and Materials Use:
Requires the ability to operate, maneuver and/or provide simple but continuous adjustment on equipment, machinery and tools such as a motor vehicle, detection equipment, hand tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions. - Verbal Aptitude:
Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference and descriptive data and information such as work orders, flow readings, plat drawings, correspondence and general operating manuals. - Mathematical Aptitude:
Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; calculate percentages, and decimals. - Functional Reasoning:
Requires the ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Involves semi-routine standardized work, with some latitude for independent judgment regarding choices of action. - Situational Reasoning:
Requires the ability to exercise the judgment, decisiveness and creativity required in situations involving the evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria. - Environmental Factors:
