Canton Public Library Director

Canton Missouri

The Canton Public Library is seeking a community-minded, organized, and collaborative leader to serve as Library Director. Working under the direction of the Board of Trustees, the Director is responsible for the administration and efficient operation of the Library, supervision of library personnel, financial management, programming, outreach, and community relations.

Position Responsibilities
  • Implement Board approved policies and recommend operational and policy improvements.
  • Prepare the annual budget in consultation with the Board Treasurer and monitor expenditures.
  • Provide financial, statistical, and operational reports to the Board of Trustees.
  • Supervise and direct library personnel and make recommendations regarding staffing and personnel matters.
  • Prepare and manage grants and complete reports required by governing authorities, the Missouri State Auditor, and the Missouri State Library.
  • Plan library programs and outreach activities that respond to community needs.
  • Oversee library materials, equipment, technology, supplies, and patron services.
  • Build positive relationships with schools, local government, community organizations, patrons, donors, and other partners.
  • Promote the Library’s services, programs, and role in the community.
Required and

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Previous library experience preferred.
  • Leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong communication, organization, financial-management, technology, and community-relations skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with the Board of Trustees, employees, patrons, community partners, and the public.
  • Experience with budgets, grants, required reporting, programming, or nonprofit or public-sector administration is beneficial.
  • Commitment to excellent patron service and the mission of a rural public library.
Schedule and Compensation

This is a full-time position. Pay is commensurate with experience. Final compensation, schedule, and benefits are subject to approval by the Canton Public Library Board of Trustees.
