The Transitional Care Unit is a 20‑bed department on the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) step‑down team. The team is composed of nurses, nurse technicians, and ancillary staff.
TCU serves Freeman and our community by caring for patients who are transitioning from ICU to Medical‑Surgery level of care. Patients may have cardiac complications, respiratory distress, diabetes management, and other conditions.

ResponsibilitiesUnder the direction and supervision of a nurse, provides basic nursing care needs for assigned patients.
Requirements- Currently enrolled in an RN nursing program and in the final semester of nursing school.
- AHA BLS for healthcare providers within 60 days.
- Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training Program (CPI) within 365 days.
- NT competency day annually by transcript due date.
