Overview
TAMKO is seeking a Lab Technician to work at Downtown Operations office in Joplin, Mo. The Lab Technician supports TAMKO’s Research and Development team by preparing samples, conducting laboratory testing, maintaining equipment, and accurately reporting results to support product development and innovation.
Responsibilities- Laboratory Operations:
Set up, operate, and maintain laboratory equipment. Ensure that work areas are kept clean and organized at all times. Follow all testing standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols. - Sample Preparation:
Prepare samples for testing. This may involve cutting, weighing, measuring, mixing, blending, or assembling. - Testing:
Conduct testing on a variety of materials to evaluate their chemical and physical properties, as well as performance and durability. Testing includes softening point, flash point, penetration, viscosities, FTIR, DSR, etc. - Data Entry:
Accurately collect and report results with the ability to use critical thinking to recognize and respond to unexpected test results, errors, and/or discrepancies. - Formulations:
Collaborate with R&D scientists on formulation, development, and testing of asphalt blends. - Collaboration:
Communicate experimental results, observations, and project updates effectively with cross-functional teams, including R&D, Asphalt Processing, New Product Development, Innovation, and Manufacturing. - Continuous Improvement:
Demonstrate initiative as a self-starter who can work independently as well as part of a team. Show an eagerness to learn new testing methods, equipment, and technologies to support ongoing research and development efforts.
- Bachelor’s degree in science related field, or equivalent experience preferred
- Hands-on laboratory experience is preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, One Note, etc.)
- Strong attention to detail, with a focus on maintaining a clean and organized workspace
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and take initiative in a dynamic lab environment
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills; able to recognize anomalies, troubleshoot, and ask questions when needed
- Self-motivated, dependable, and able to work independently and prioritize tasks with minimal supervision
- Eager to learn new methods and technologies; demonstrates the ability to learn quickly and adapt to change
- Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional partners

- While performing the duties of this job the employee will be required to operate, inspect, and maintain a variety of lab and computing equipment. This may require the employee to stand, walk, sit, stoop, and crouch.
- The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to occasionally moderate.
