Job Title

Lead Locate Technician

Job Description

The Lead Technician is responsible for leading a group of assigned employees within their team, while maintaining and protecting their area of coverage and following company policies and safety regulations. The Lead Locate Technician accurately locates underground facilities (telephone, electric, cable television, gas, fiber optic, water, sewer lines) and assists the team to accomplish the same goal. This position is a key component to ensure that the area complies with client and state requirements.

In order to obtain employment with Grid Hawk LLC, candidates must complete a background check with no violations within the last 3 years. Candidates must also take and pass a DOT drug test.

We will provide you the tools you need to achieve, including: company vehicle, laptop and smartphone. All personal protective equipment provided.

Service duties include:

  • Observing, locating, marking, and documenting underground and exposed utility locations.
  • Using multiple methods to locate utilities.
  • Dispatching locating technicians to locate and verify for utility customers.
  • Oversee daily scheduling of contractors and sub‑contractors.
  • Route tickets to ensure optimized efficiency.
  • Game plan to achieve daily production targets, provide help if needed.
  • Review prior days documents and reports.
  • Review daily expectations and safety messages and adjust as needed.
  • Auditing documents.
  • Ensuring all documents correctly comply with client's regulations.
  • Establish client quality assurance and resolve any problems if needed.
  • Ensure all team members timesheets are correct and team members are accounted for.
  • Locates underground facilities using a transmitter and hooking up to a buried facility, pedestal, etc.
  • Work in and walk over all types of terrain in and around construction zones and residential, commercial, industrial and rural areas in all types of weather conditions.
  • Interpret job order tickets, blueprints and maps to efficiently route and perform duties.
  • Perform locates and emergency/on‑call locates during regular, overtime and holiday hours as necessary.
  • Perform all work in a timely, professional and efficient manner while effectively communicating and interacting with customers, co‑employees and third parties.
  • Communicate with management team, contractor and utility customer to ensure a damage‑free environment.
  • Knowledge of technology and tools needed.
  • Ability to work with others and in a supervised team environment.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalency (GED).
  • Multiple years of utility locating experience.
  • Documentation of excellent quality ratio within locating industry.
  • Knowledge and experience using multiple types of utility locating equipment.
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and decipher multiple types of prints.
  • Vacuum truck experience A+.
  • Ability to lift over 50 lbs.
  • Ability to walk/stand for multiple hours a day.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret prints at a high level.
  • Pass a background screening (no violations within the last 3 years).
  • Pass a DOT drug test.
