Job Overview
The Macy's Maintenance Mechanics perform preventive and corrective maintenance on material handling equipment, including daily inspections of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical components of material handling equipment, powered equipment, and building structures. Full‑time colleagues typically schedule 30 or more hours per week; part‑time, 12‑24 hours per week.

- Observe and listen to operating machines to diagnose malfunctions and determine needed adjustments or repairs
- Troubleshoot and repair material handling equipment, including sorters and conveyors, and identify problems requiring outside vendors
- Perform preventative maintenance on equipment, including daily inspections of mechanical, hydraulic and electrical components, reporting issues to management
- Utilize the computerized maintenance management system; monitor, report, and document usage and replacement of equipment and parts
- Dismantle machine or equipment to examine parts, remove defective parts, and replace or reproduce parts as needed
- Reassemble and test machine operation to verify correct function, lubricating machine tools and equipment
- Perform preventative maintenance on the facility, including carpentry, plumbing, and electrical duties
- Operate ARC, MIG, OXY/ACETYLENE, and plasma welding equipment safely
- Maintain a safe working environment and report safety concerns to management
- Disassemble, inspect, and perform routine repairs and rebuilds of defective parts on all automated warehouse equipment
- Install or recharge batteries for battery‑powered material handling equipment
- Remove dust, dirt, grease, and waste material from machines; paint machines to prevent corrosion
- Perform basic electrical tasks such as replacing motors, fuses, and switches
- Foster an environment of acceptance and respect, strengthening relationships with colleagues, customers, and communities
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1–2 years of direct experience, or commercial or industrial maintenance related experience and/or training
- Equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to understand and communicate effectively with customers, co‑workers, and supervisors
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret employment policies, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals in English
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with various departments and management
- Resourceful self‑starter, works well independently and as part of a team
- Basic knowledge of computers and handheld technology
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including day, evening, weekends, and/or holidays
Physical Requirements You Will Perform
- Prolonged periods of standing or walking around the store or department
- Must be able to reach, crouch, kneel, stoop, climb ladders, and use depth perception and colour vision
- Frequent use of computers and handheld electronics
- Frequently lift or move up to 50 lbs
Random drug testing will be conducted on a monthly or semi‑monthly basis. Colleagues will be randomly selected for testing by a third party. Testing must be completed on the same workday the colleague is informed of selection, within 24 hours of notification.
