Geary County Schools - High School Orchestra Teacher in Junction City, Kansas The Junction City High School Orchestra Teacher provides String Curriculum Instruction that promotes and supports college and career readiness. The Director develops student proficiencies based on the Performing Arts National Core Arts Standards and promotes student appreciation for fine arts.
More specifically, this position will:
- Instruct and direct orchestra music groups, which include, but are not limited to, Chamber Orchestra, Concert Orchestra, Marching Band, Piano, Guitar and Music Theory.
- Guide and instruct students through the Artistic Processes based on National Core Arts Anchor Standards with the specified purpose of developing proficient learners in the arts and providing appropriate instruction and support for students who seek to achieve at the accomplished and advanced performance standard levels.
- Responsible for the organization and conduct of multiple high school music performances, such as musicals, as determined by the Performing Arts Department and as approved at the building and district level(s).
- Sponsor and organize large and small group ensemble festivals, KMEA and/or KSHSAA events, and approved nationally recognized and community-based performances.
- Submit required reports in a timely manner, participate in staff, department, committee, and team meetings.
- Obtain instructional resources and materials through processes outlined by the Principal and/or the Division of Teaching and Learning.
- Keep informed regarding new technologies that facilitate and support student learning.
- Support the vision and mission of JCHS, a Career Academy High School, and work to develop and sustain the climate and culture of the academy model.
- Participate as a team member with the department, academy, and both licensed and nonlicensed staff in a comprehensive evaluation, review, and re-evaluation process.
- Be knowledgeable in the JCHS Strategic and School Improvement Plan with a focused effort of implementation with fidelity and purpose.
- Communicate clearly and accurately with administrators, staff, parents, students, and support agencies.
- Be an active member of the professional learning community: student, committee and academy meetings, as well as assist in early recognition and prevention of educational problems.
- Respect the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics, state, and federal laws.
- Attend/assist with school events and supervise students in all activities related to classroom.
- Strive to communicate the positive aspects of our school program to the public in word and deed.
- Uphold and enforce Board policies, administrative procedures, school rules, and federal and state regulations including but not limited to:
Consolidated Plan for Federal Programs, acceptable use of technology, sexual and racial harassment, and child abuse reporting. - Perform other duties assigned by the principal or other building or district administrators.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in Education, Music Education, or a related field. Valid Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) Music Teaching License or an ability to obtain a license within one month of hire. Demonstrated knowledge of sound systems for musicals.
