Description

Performs a variety of maintenance and repair work on City vehicles and equipment.

• Frequently required to walk and stand for extended periods of time
* • Ability to frequently lift and or move up to 50 lbs.
* • May occasionally lift weights up to 100 lbs.
* • Ability to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, and operate objects, tools, and controls
* • Ability to reach with arms and hands
* • Occasionally will climb, balance, stoop, crouch, kneel and crawl.
* • Must have close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
* • Ability to speak and hear and communicate effectively

Examples of Duties

• Repairs steering, braking, hydraulic, electrical, lighting, air conditioning, suspension, and related system components of vehicle and equipment.

• Sweeps, washes, paints, and repairs or replaces components on vehicles and equipment as directed.

• Performs custodial work such as required and assigned.

• Assists in setting up and taking down equipment for various programs, prepares facilities for use.

• Must be able to provide own set of tools.

• Other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications

• Graduation from a High School or GED equivalent.

• Any equivalent combination of related education and experience.

• Valid Driver's license is required with the ability to obtain a CDL driver's license Class A with air brakes within 60 days of start date.

• Knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in vehicle and equipment maintenance; knowledge of equipment and supplies used to do major and minor repairs; some knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions.

• Skill in operation of:
Lawn and landscaping equipment, mowers, chain saws, edger's, weed trimmers, miscellaneous hand and power tools for maintenance, painting,
plumbing, and electrical work.

• Ability to: work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule; lift heavy objects, walk, and stand for long periods of time, and to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions; communicate orally and in writing; use equipment and tools properly and safely; understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions; establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public.

• Frequently works near moving mechanical parts

• Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions to include frequent exposure to heat or cold, wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals.

• Frequently works in areas and is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.

• Noise levels in the work environment is frequently loud
