Overview
Summary: The Accountant’s primary duties include maintaining and reconciling cash balances, preparing bank deposits, entering accounting data into the accounting system, providing financial reports, and assisting with budget preparation, audit, and taxes. All functions will be carried out following Huna Totem Corporation's accounting policies. Working at least 3 days a week in Juneau, Alaska. Must already reside in Juneau.
Responsibilities- Perform accounting duties for HTC and subsidiaries, as well as ANVEI, HHF, EBT, and SST.
- Review, code, and enter vendor invoices into the accounting system.
- Prepare third-party reports (e.g., sales tax, property tax).
- Enter customer invoices into the accounting system and prepare monthly A/R statements.
- Track expected cash receipts.
- Prepare bank deposits and record them into the accounting system.
- Reconcile bank and credit card accounts.
- Monitor all general ledger accounts for accuracy and initiate adjusting entries as necessary.
- Complete monthly closing duties.
- Assist with annual audit and tax preparation.
- Prepare reports and projects as requested by the supervisor.
- Participate in cross-training and serve as a backup for other accounting staff.
- Work cooperatively with other accounting team members.
- This position generally operates in a professional office environment, using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
- This is largely a sedentary role requiring the use of typical office equipment.
- When in a rural setting, must be able to walk and drive on gravel roads and in inclement weather.
- Role may require lifting of up to 20 lbs.
- Required
Education & Experience:
Minimum of ten years of accounting experience, including general ledger (GL), accounts payable (A/P), accounts receivable (A/R), cash management, and financial reporting. - Extensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite (specifically spreadsheets), accounting software, and databases.
- Ability to work independently and as part of an accounting team.
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, time management, and communication skills.
- Preferred Education: Accounting degree preferred.
