Job Description
State Accountant (02-4010) – positions available in Juneau or Anchorage, AK. Only Alaska residents are eligible.
What You Will Be DoingIn collaboration with the Finance Director, the State Accountants will lead the Accounting Services Section, serve as the Statewide Single Audit Coordinator, and manage the Statewide ERP (IRIS/CGI Advantage®) Financial and Procurement Support Team. Responsibilities include developing policy and administrative rules, advising on tax compliance issues, implementing new governmental accounting standards, and producing statewide annual comprehensive financial reports. The role also involves coaching and mentoring accounting supervisors and staff accountants, setting performance goals, and evaluating team performance.

Required:
- Active Certified Public Accountant license.
- At least three (3) years of professional government accounting experience, including experience with an enterprise‑wide accounting system such as CGI, SAP, People Soft, Oracle, or similar.
Substitution (in lieu of active CPA license):
- Certified Government Finance Manager (CGFM) by the Association of Government Accountants.
- Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO) by the Government Finance Officers Association.
- A Master’s Degree in Accounting or Finance plus at least one (1) additional year of professional government accounting experience in an enterprise‑wide accounting system.
Additional Information: The position is in the partially exempt service in accordance with AS 39.25.130. It is exempt from the usual recruitment process and not covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
