Accounting Technician 3 – Juneau, Alaska
Job OverviewThis full‑time position is open to Alaska residents only. The Accounting Technician will provide financial support to the Department of Family and Community Services by researching, reviewing, and processing Reimbursable Service Agreements (RSA) and accounts payable documents; processing encumbrance requests, department cash receipts deposits, and journal entries; and serving as the primary point of contact for RSA. The candidate will work independently, prioritize tasks, and maintain high quality and accuracy.
Qualifications- Competencies
: Accounting Operations – knowledge of general ledger accounting, control/subsidiary account relationships, and reconciliation techniques for accounts receivable, payable, and disbursing officer accountability. - Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving – logical, systematic, sequential approach to addressing problems or opportunities.
- Attention to Detail – thorough and conscientious in performing work.
- Oral and Written Communication – effective presentation of information, clear written communication, active listening.
- Self‑Management – sets realistic goals, demonstrates initiative, works with minimal supervision, and maintains responsibility.
- Two years of technical‑level accounting or bookkeeping experience, with at least one year at the full‑proficiency level.
- Certification as an Accounting Technician from an accredited college substitutes for one year of the required experience at the non‑full‑proficiency level.
- Post‑secondary education from an accredited college substitutes for up to one year of experience if it includes at least 6 semester or 8 quarter hours in accounting.
- Post‑secondary education from an accredited college substitutes for the required two years of experience if it includes at least 9 semester or 12 quarter hours at or above the 200 level in accounting.
- An associate’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration from an accredited college substitutes for the required two years of experience if it includes at least 6 semester or 8 quarter hours at or above the 200 level in accounting.
