Overview
The Department of Health is seeking an Accounting Technician 2/3. This exempt, flex‑staffed position is open to Alaskan residents and offers a clear path from Technician 2 to Technician 3.
What You Will Be DoingGrow your accounting career while building advanced technical skills. You will gain hands‑on experience with complex financial operations, reimbursable service agreements, reconciliations, and statewide accounting systems while collaborating with an experienced team. You will receive training, mentorship, and increasing responsibility to develop the knowledge and confidence needed to resolve accounting issues independently and manage more complex work. The role supports advancement from Technician 2 to Technician 3 upon completion of the Level 2 series.

Technician 2
- One year of entry‑level accounting or clerical bookkeeping experience.
- Substitutions:
Accounting Technician certification or post‑secondary education with at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours in Accounting.
Technician 3
- Two years of technical‑level accounting or bookkeeping experience, with at least one year at the full‑proficiency level.
- Substitutions:
Accounting Technician certification or post‑secondary education with at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours in Accounting, or 9 semester/12 quarter hours at or above the 200 level in Accounting.
- Health Insurance – employer contributions for medical, vision, and dental services.

- Retirement Benefits – membership in PERS/ TRS, matching contributions, defined‑benefit or defined‑contribution plans, and the Alaska Supplemental Annuity Plan.
