Pay will be determined based on location of selected individual.
- Anchorage, Soldotna, Wasilla salary: $30.62
- Fairbanks salary: $31.54
- Juneau salary: $32.15
This position provides department-wide Accounts Payable and Travel support by reviewing, processing, and reconciling invoices, travel reimbursements, and related financial transactions. Responsibilities include analyzing financial and payroll error reports, researching and resolving discrepancies, preparing journal entries, and maintaining accurate financial records within the State’s accounting systems. The position also assists staff with Accounts Payable and Travel procedures, ensures compliance with state policies, and supports other fiscal operations as needed.

The working environment you can expectThis position is being recruited statewide, with duty stations in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau, Soldotna, and Wasilla. The successful candidate will join a collaborative and customer‑focused team that provides essential Accounts Payable and Travel support to DEC programs across Alaska.
Qualifications and Experience- Accounting: Knowledge of traditional accounting practices including accrual, obligations, and costs methods.
- Written Communication: Writes in a clear, concise, organized, and convincing manner for the intended audience.
- Customer Service: Anticipates and meets the needs of both internal and external customers, delivers high‑quality products and services, and is committed to continuous improvement.

Two years of technical level accounting or bookkeeping experience, of which at least one year was at the full‑proficiency level.
Substitutions:
- Certification as an Accounting Technician from an accredited college will substitute for one year of the required experience at the non‑full‑proficiency level.
- Post‑secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for up to one year of the required experience at the non‑full‑proficiency level if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours in Accounting.
- Post‑secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required two years of experience if it includes at least 9 semester/12 quarter hours at or above the 200 level in Accounting.
- An associate’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration from an accredited college will substitute for the required two years of experience if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours at or above the 200 level in Accounting.
