Job Description

* COURTROOM DUTIES
Prepare and maintain courtrooms for daily scheduled hearings, including setup, organization, and operation of electronic recording equipment. Coordinate hearings by managing phone calls, conference calls, and the participation of multiple parties. Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot recording systems to ensure accurate and complete records of proceedings. Open court sessions, administer oaths, and facilitate the timely flow of cases, parties, and attorneys. Maintain detailed log notes and manage the control, security, playback, and return of exhibits and recorded proceedings.
Prepare and maintain jury trial documentation, including juror records, witness lists, and trial forms, in accordance with court rules and procedures.
DUTIES OUTSIDE OF THE COURTROOM
Process and manage documents filed in open court or over the counter, maintaining case records, and scheduling hearings and trials. Prepare court calendars, warrants, and related case materials, respond to records requests, and manage record retention. Provide front-counter and telephone customer service by assisting the public, accepting filings, preparing release paperwork, and explaining court procedures in accordance with Alaska Court System standards.
The Work Hours
Full-time court employees are currently scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week. The work hours for this position are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break.
The Work Environment
The Dimond Courthouse is located on 4th Street near the Historic District in Juneau. As a Courtroom Judicial Assistant, you will become part of the Juneau Trial Court helping to fulfill the mission of the Alaska Court System.

Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND one year of office clerical experience AND the ability to keyboard at least 40 words per minute (net).
Substitution:
Additional office clerical work experience will substitute for the high school diploma or GED certificate on a month-for-month basis.
Completion of 36 semester credit hours or 48 quarter credit hours of coursework from an accredited college will substitute for the year of required office clerical experience.
Completion of an appropriate vocational training course of study such as legal secretary, paralegal, or office skills will substitute for the required office clerical experience on a month-for-month basis.
