Job Description
The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA), Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HS&EM), Administrative Section, is recruiting for two Administrative Assistants
1. This position is open to Alaska residents only.
- Provide comprehensive administrative support to DHS&EM, including office management, policy implementation, travel and payroll coordination, HR support, fiscal oversight, and assistance during emergency responses.
- Act as a resource for personnel/payroll, travel, archiving, and computer training.
- Research, interpret, and explain complex policies and procedures.
- Handle inquiries, complaints, and requests for information via email, phone, and in person.
- Answer the Division’s main phone line, including calls for the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC Hotline) during duty hours.
- Accountability:
Holds self and others accountable, sets priorities, delegates, and complies with control systems. - Attention to Detail:
Thorough and conscientious about detail. - Computer
Skills:
Proficient with computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems. - Flexibility:

Inspires commitment and fosters cooperation among team members.
- Six months of advanced clerical experience (e.g., Office Assistant 2, Accounting Clerk, or equivalent). Examples include reviewing applications, tracking expenditures, composing letters and memoranda.
- OR six months of any combination of post‑secondary education, vocational education, and advanced‑level clerical experience (3 semester or 4 quarter hours of post‑secondary education equals one month of experience; 150 hours of vocational education equals one month of experience).
- Ability to occasionally travel to remote field sites using boats, small aircraft, and helicopters, and work in varying weather conditions.
- Based at Joint Base Elmendorf‑Fort Richardson.
- Access to on‑site facilities such as a café and fitness center.
- Work involves time‑sensitive decision‑making and adaptability to changing circumstances.
