What you will be doing:
The Administrative Assistant 1 is responsible for the day‑to‑day administrative duties within the headquarters unit in Juneau, supporting staff in Juneau and Anchorage. The role includes administrative support in personnel, payroll, recruitment, procurement, accounting, and budget functions for the Genetics Lab and Mark, Tag, and Age Lab employees. You will adapt quickly to shifting priorities, manage constant interruptions, and collaborate with other administrative staff to ensure tasks are completed.

Who we are looking for:- Advanced clerical experience (6 months) in roles such as Office Assistant 2, Accounting Clerk, or equivalent with the State of Alaska or another employer.
- Or a combination of post‑secondary education, vocational education, and/or advanced-level clerical experience equivalent to 6 months. (Three semester or four quarter hours of post‑secondary education equal one month of experience; 150 hours of vocational education equal one month.)
- Proficiency in computer software for accounting documentation, spreadsheet creation and maintenance, and tracking of budgetary and financial information. Ability to learn state and department proprietary systems.
- Strong understanding of policies, procedures, and administrative/accounting requirements.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with staff.
- Superior organization for managing projects, email, and trackers; meticulous attention to detail and a high level of effort and commitment.
- Adaptability: ability to adjust work plans by gathering relevant information and applying critical thinking to meet multiple demands and competing priorities in a changing environment.
- Reviewing complex or questionable applications or documents; searching files and regulations to confirm accuracy; using judgment in applying criteria and policies; providing information on administrative processes; tracking expenditures; and completing required administrative paperwork.
- Composing letters and memoranda; reviewing forms for completeness and accuracy; examples include timesheets, appointment paperwork, or required drug‑testing notifications for employees requiring a Commercial Driver’s License.
