Job Description

Under the general direction of the Deputy Director of Planning in the Division of Project Delivery, this position serves as Multi-Modal Planning Chief for Transportation Planning across the state. It supervises the Alaska Community Transit Office and the Department’s transit programs and includes federal reporting requirements, contract management, grant program management, and conducting other federally required and recommended planning projects.

Working environment

This statewide position may be filled from any location within Alaska. In-person office space is available in Anchorage, Juneau, and Fairbanks. Microsoft Teams is used for many meetings. Some travel will be required to liaise with staff, stakeholders, and partners.

Employees may work in remote locations and urban centers, addressing a wide range of transportation needs across Alaska’s diverse terrain and extreme weather conditions.

  • Project Management: Knowledge of principles, methods, and tools for developing, scheduling, coordinating, and managing projects and resources, including monitoring and inspecting costs, work, and contractor performance.

Minimum Qualifications

Equivalent experience typically gained by post‑secondary education in urban, regional, transportation, or landscape planning, and/or experience in environmental, transportation, or community development; architecture; civil engineering; landscape architecture; urban design; historic preservation; geography; GIS; housing administration; grant administration; accounting; business management; or research.
