Job Summary

Process and provide customer service for barge/ferry cargo availability, routing, and freight rating information through phone, email, and in‑person interactions. Duties vary by level.

Customer Service Representative I Responsibilities
  • Maintain safety first; work in a safety‑sensitive environment.
  • Respond to customer requests via phone, email, and in person regarding rates, routing, packing procedures, and interline transportation.
  • Perform barge checking, intake, inspection of vehicles and cargo; operate scanning (imaging) system.
  • Process bills of lading and enter receiving data into the computer system.
  • Apply training on AML's Customer Experience Initiative.
  • Deliver excellent customer service.
Customer Service Representative II Responsibilities
  • Quote accurate rates and document cargo bookings.
  • Rate bills of lading using the company computer program.
  • Possess knowledge of up to two regions and handle 90% of customer questions.
  • Follow established processes and adapt to continuous improvements.
  • Perform audits for billing accuracy.
  • Maintain excellent customer service.
Customer Service Representative III Responsibilities
  • Competent in all duties: receiving, billing, quoting, and booking.
  • Know up to four regions and handle 90% of customer questions.
  • Address concerns and troubleshoot issues.
  • Travel as needed to other ports for training or coverage.
  • Operate pallet jack and forklift with minimal supervision.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED; minimum of 2 years related experience.
  • Knowledge of current customers, requirements, and processes is helpful.
  • Read, analyze, and interpret documents such as tariffs and manuals.
  • Write and communicate clearly; present information to managers, customers, and employees.
  • Apply for and hold a TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Card).
  • Mathematical skills: calculate discounts, interest, commissions, percentages, areas, etc.
  • Reasoning ability: solve practical problems; interpret written and verbal instructions.
  • Flexible work schedule; willing to work overtime; plan, organize, prioritize; reliable attendance.
  • Work alone or as part of a team with minimal supervision.
  • Adaptable to high‑stress, fast‑paced environment.
  • PC skills:
    Windows, Excel, Outlook, keyboarding proficiency; learn in‑house software; keyboard and ten‑key by touch.
  • Must pass a pre‑employment drug test and a criminal background check.
Physical and

Work Environment Requirements
  • Regularly required to speak and communicate in person or by phone/radio.
  • Perform physical activities from sitting to standing, walking, and occasional lifting 10–40 pounds.
  • Use eyes, hands, fingers for keyboard, phone, fax, and office equipment.
  • Occasionally kneel, stretch; inspect vehicles.
  • Maintain constant alertness and safe behavior.
  • Required to wear PPE as outlined in the company’s Industrial Health and Safety Manual (hard hat, safety shoes, gloves, glasses, hearing protection, respiratory protection, Arctic gear).
  • Work environment noise moderate to very loud; exposure to weather and machinery.
  • Dress requirements for safety at some locations.
