UAS is currently seeking applicants for Student Library Assistants! We schedule your desk shifts around your course load. No previous library experience is required — full on‑job training! This is a great opportunity to work up to 20 hours per week on campus while going to school.
Responsibilities- Perform routine library duties with limited decision making, making routine decisions about assigned work in absence of immediate supervision.
- Be self‑motivated and work independently with intermittent supervision.
- Provide excellent customer service to students, faculty, and community members.
- Communicate clearly with a friendly, welcoming demeanor.
- Maintain a positive work ethic, reliability, and confidentiality of patron records.
- Collaborate as a problem solver and positive team member.
- Provide primary coverage of the front circulation desk and assist on multiple assigned projects throughout the library under various library staff.
- Be trained for competency with library circulation software.
- Learn the Library of Congress and Dewey Decimal Identification and Location Systems for accurate shelving and retrieval of library materials.
- Enrolled as a UA student taking a minimum of 6 credits per semester with a minimum GPA of 2.0, or newly enrolled student.
- No specific prior experience required – all training will be provided.
This position is located on the University of Alaska campus in Juneau. It is a part‑time Student Assistant 1 position, starting with an hourly rate of $13.11
