Whatyou will be doing:
This position will manage the school improvement program, which includes federal grants to districts for the lowest-performing schools in the state, technical assistance for schools in completing school improvement plans, and oversight of the implementation of these plans. This position will also work with the Empowerment Specialists to provide assistance to the state's lowest-performing schools, designated through the annual accountability as required by the Every Student Succeeds Act.

This is a key position in coordinating state resources to best serve the practical needs of statewide educators to improve student success. Duties involve conducting state, regional, and local training, as well as participation in the presentation at a variety of statewide conferences throughout the year.
This position supports School Recognition and Improvement efforts across the state including the coordination of the Alaska Teacher of the Year and Milken recognition programs.
This position may be located in either Juneau or Anchorage, Alaska, with offices offering covered parking, convenient access to local amenities, and a collaborative environment that supports cross-training across the division and department. Telework options may be available for qualified employees, though some in-office attendance is required.

- Education and Training:
Knowledge of teaching, training, research, making presentations, lecturing, testing, and other instructional methods. - Oral Communication:
Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. - Compliance:
Knowledge of procedures for assessing, evaluating, and monitoring programs or projects for compliance with Federal laws, regulations, and guidance.
This position does require the incumbent to travel to remote parts of Alaska at all times of the year, sometimes in small aircraft or by small boats or ferries. Occasionally this position is required to spend the night in a school, sleeping in the facility, as there are no hotels in the community.
A valid Driver's License is desired at the time of appointment.
This position requires a valid teaching or administrative certificate issued by the Alaska Department of Education & Early Development.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college and four years of professional experience in education, one year of which was as a staff advisor/specialist, administrator, supervisor or consultant in planning, developing and maintaining standards and evaluating educational and vocational curricula or educational programs in a specialized field.
Substitution:
Appropriate graduate study may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the non-specialized experience to a maximum of two years.
