The School of Arts & Sciences at UAS is seeking an academic advisor to support students in the departments of Humanities, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences. As an Academic Advisor, you will provide personalized guidance throughout the academic journey, help students understand degree requirements, develop educational plans, navigate university policies and procedures, and connect with campus resources that promote academic achievement and personal growth.
This role requires building meaningful relationships with a diverse student population while empowering students to make informed decisions about their educational and career goals. You will work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and campus partners to foster student persistence, engagement, and timely degree completion through proactive advising, problem-solving, and student advocacy. The ideal candidate is student-centered, approachable, and committed to creating an inclusive, welcoming environment where all students feel supported and encouraged to reach their full potential.

- Two years of academic advising experience or two years of working with college students on issues such as advising, academic success, academic coaching, counseling, orientation, student support, or retention services.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited post-secondary institution, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Master's degree in a relevant area of study
- Experience using databases like Banner, OnBase, and/or Navigate (EAB)
- Knowledge and skills for using Degree Works or a similar degree tracking system
- Experience working with faculty and students on a college or university campus
This full-time, non-exempt position is located on the Juneau campus in Juneau, Alaska. It includes a competitive salary and a benefits package. The University provides retirement options, annual leave, holidays, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental, and vision care coverage. New hires are placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 78, based on education and experience.
