The University of Alaska Southeast School of Education (SOE) is seeking an Academic Advisor to join our team on the Juneau campus. This is an in‑person position supporting current and prospective students pursuing teacher or administrator certification through our educator preparation programs. As the primary advising contact for students in the SOE, you will help students navigate degree requirements, course planning, university policies, and Alaska teacher certification requirements while providing guidance that supports their academic success.

This position also collaborates with faculty, staff, and other university partners on enrollment management, student outreach, recruiting, and degree completion, while contributing to a student‑centered environment dedicated to preparing Alaska's future educators.

The ideal candidate enjoys working directly with students and is able to build positive, professional relationships with a range of people. Success in this role requires strong communication and organizational skills, attention to details, sound judgement, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accurate and confidential student records. Experience navigating higher education processes, interpreting policies, and collaborating with faculty and campus partners will help you excel, along with a commitment to providing outstanding customer service and supporting student success.

Familiarity with Google Workspace and student information systems is beneficial.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited post‑secondary institution and one year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. This may include academic advising or one year of working with college students on issues such as advising, academic success, academic coaching, counseling, orientation, student support, financial aid, or retention services.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience using databases such as Banner, OnBase and/or Navigate (EAB)
  • Knowledge and skills for using Degree Works or similar degree tracking system.
  • Experience working with faculty and students on a college/university campus
Position Details

This position is located on the University of Alaska Southeast campus in Juneau. This is a full‑time, non‑exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage.

New hires will be placed on UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 78, based on education and experience.
