Power Plant Shift Supervisor (Generation System Dispatcher)

Company: Homer Electric Association, Inc., a member‑owned electric utility serving the central and southern Kenai Peninsula, Alaska.

Posting Date: February 16

Hours: Wednesday – Tuesday, 12‑hour shifts with a rotating schedule (one week on/one week off, alternating day and night shifts).

Employment Type: Full‑time, regular onsite position reporting to the Nikiski Power Plant Superintendent.

Compensation: Competitive pay commensurate with experience; specific salary details will be discussed during the hiring process.

Responsibilities
  • Provide training to Plant Operator/Rovers on combined cycle plant systems, including completing proficiency sign‑offs and developing training materials and procedures.
  • Monitor, track, and ensure timely completion of safety‑critical and regulatory PMs and repair activities.
  • Co‑ordinate and adjust crew schedules with other Power Plant Shift Supervisors to maintain adequate coverage and manpower for 24/7 power plant operation, maintenance, and generation dispatch functions.
  • Read system drawings and use the information to make decisions on re‑routing power as needed.
  • Perform Generation and Transmission Dispatching from the Nikiski Combined Cycle Plant, including preparing switching orders, forecasting system loads, coordinating and implementing generation schedules, and other management/supervisory duties.
Qualifications
  • Comprehensive understanding of power plant operations, plant components, control systems, water‑treatment programs, and boiler systems.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in operations and maintenance of power generation facilities, or equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field; alternatively, eight additional years of experience may substitute for the degree requirement.
  • Previous supervisory or management experience preferred.
  • Experience with combined cycle operations or maintenance preferred.
  • Valid Alaska Driver’s license required within 90 days of hire date, with a clean driving record.
