Under the direction of the Chief Engineer, the Third Engineer – Postgraduate is trained to become a future Engineer Officer. The designated Training Officer ensures exposure to all areas of the Engineering department, monitors progress, and reviews work on various tasks completed by the Third Engineer – Postgraduate.

Responsibilities include:

taking safety precautions during watch, maintaining machinery space and logbooks, assisting in preparation of the main and auxiliary machinery, performing routine pumping operations, monitoring isolation of electrical and other plants, using pollution prevention equipment, providing professional guidance to subordinates, emergency duties as specified in the ship assembly plan, maintaining teamwork, undertaking repairs and maintenance under the direction of the Second Engineer, and ensuring correct use and maintenance of tools, among other duties assigned by senior officers.
