Job Description
Engineer/Architect 3 in the Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Northern Region Design, will help keep Alaska moving.
What you will be doing:
- Lead and manage the delivery of complex, multi‑disciplinary engineering projects from planning through bid award, ensuring scope, schedule, budget, and quality objectives are met.
- Oversee and approve the development of bid‑ready plans, specifications, and construction cost estimates, serving as Engineer of Record as required.
- Coordinate project development activities with internal teams, consultants, agencies, tribes, and local governments, including environmental, right‑of‑way, and utility coordination.
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate engineering staff, including workload management, performance reviews, hiring, and professional development.
- Support capital program development and departmental initiatives, including contract administration, procedural reviews, and participation in committees or special assignments.

The working environment you can expect:
This position is located in Fairbanks. The DOT&PF complex is on Peger Road, where design, construction, maintenance, and support staff are all just a short walk away. You’ll work closely with other engineers, project leads, and junior staff on a daily basis, and occasionally collaborate with field crews and community representatives during site visits.

This position requires a valid driver’s license and Professional Engineer’s license.
Minimum Qualifications
Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect, and three years of professional engineering or architectural experience (Engineer/Architect series), or the equivalent. Persons not registered in the State of Alaska must be registered in a state recognized by the State Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers and Land Surveyors eligible for comity in accordance with AS 08.48.191(b). Persons employed under this provision must become registered in Alaska within one year of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.
