Building Management Specialist (PCN 051690) – Juneau, AK The Department of Education & Early Development (DEED) welcomes you to join our team.

Position open to Alaskan Residents only. Please check the residency definition to determine if you qualify.

This posting has been extended. Position located in Juneau; if you do not reside in Juneau, you will be expected to relocate.

What You Will Be Doing

Assist school districts with maintaining compliance with the department’s Preventive Maintenance and Facility Management (PM/FM) Program, bolster best management practices for building systems care, and update related department handbooks and manuals. The selected applicant will travel to all school districts over a 5‑year cycle and prepare written reviews of each visit to assist districts with program compliance and best‑practice understanding. The role also supports the DEED school construction and major maintenance grant project administration, including the annual capital improvement project (CIP) grant application process.

Minimum Qualifications

Competency based minimum qualifications:

  • Building and Construction:
    Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools for construction.
  • Facilities:
    Knowledge of physical, engineering, and operational characteristics of facilities, and safety and equipment development.
  • Project Management:
    Knowledge of principles, methods, or tools for developing, scheduling, coordinating, and managing projects and resources.
  • Safety Engineering:
    Knowledge of concepts, principles, theories, and methods to identify, control, mitigate, and eliminate safety hazards in facilities, equipment, operations, and work processes.

Equivalent to education or training in engineering, architecture, business administration, or a closely related field; or progressively responsible experience in facilities construction, operation, maintenance or repair; building management; structural engineering; architecture; or licensed general contracting. Professional experience may include work as an Engineering Assistant I with the State of Alaska or equivalent.
