You must have demonstrated true dynamic commissioning experience. Those without this experience will not be considered.

The Mechanical Commissioning Technician is responsible for the testing and commissioning of mechanical systems and equipment, particularly in industrial settings. This role involves the assembly, alignment, and installation of heavy machinery, conveyors, pumps, motors, gearboxes, and other mechanical components. The technician ensures that all equipment operates according to specifications, meets safety standards, and is ready for efficient and reliable operation. The Mechanical Commissioning Technician will work closely with engineers, contractors, and other technical teams to complete commissioning processes in accordance with project timelines and quality standards.

Duties:
  • Assemble, align, and commission mechanical systems and equipment, including pumps, motors, gearboxes, conveyors, cranes, and other heavy machinery.
  • Perform pre-commissioning checks to verify that all mechanical components are installed correctly and meet manufacturer specifications.
  • Conduct thorough testing of mechanical systems, ensuring that they operate efficiently, safely, and according to project specifications.
  • Perform alignment, calibration, and balancing of equipment as required.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues during installation, testing, and commissioning, and implement effective solutions to address system inefficiencies.
  • Review and interpret mechanical schematics, drawings, and specifications to ensure accurate system setup and integration with other equipment.
  • Collaborate with engineers and other technicians to verify proper system performance and resolve discrepancies or issues.
  • Perform startup and functional tests to ensure that systems meet performance criteria.
  • Document commissioning activities, test results, and any discrepancies or changes to the original plans.
  • Ensure all systems are compliant with safety regulations, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and other safety protocols.
  • Work with electrical and control systems teams to ensure seamless integration and operation of mechanical systems with other building and plant systems.
  • Provide training and support to operators and other personnel on the proper operation and maintenance of commissioned equipment.
  • Monitor system performance and make adjustments as necessary to ensure long‑term reliability and efficiency.
Required Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience required.
  • Experience working with or as a site automation engineer.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC) safety training certification.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel preferred.
  • Preference given to candidates with experience in dynamic commissioning, testing, or maintaining industrial systems or equipment within the Arctic oil and gas sector.
