Regular Full-Time Professional – Juneau, AK, US
Position SummaryAs a Mine Engineer at Greens Creek Mine, you will perform daily engineering functions and special projects in an underground hard‑rock mining operation to keep production running and profitability high. You will work on a remote island approximately 18 miles outside Juneau, Alaska, in a 4‑day on/3‑day off schedule with daily boat commute.
Key Responsibilities- Plan, develop, and monitor short‑ and medium‑range mine plans, including design, backfill, stope, and production scheduling.
- Prepare and reconcile production reports, KPIs, and annual Life‑of‑Mine plan using underground mining software.
- Coordinate with geology, survey, and mine operations to prioritize projects and identify resource allocation.
- Perform autonomous mine engineering tasks, including mine surveying and database management.
- Ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations, conduct inspections, and promote safety culture.
- Assist in incident investigations, hazard identification, and safety initiatives.
- Apply cost and financial analysis techniques to explain variances, evaluate projects, and support management decisions.
- Comply with all safety and health requirements and assist in incident prevention.
- Identify, eliminate, and report hazards promptly.
- Maintain and use appropriate PPE.
- Provide suggestions for improving work processes and support change initiatives.
- Participate in risk assessment and safety initiatives.
Job Duties
- Mine planning (short and mid‑range):
- Mine design, backfill design, and short‑range planning for development, production, and backfill.
- Forecasting for 0‑3 and 3‑12 month horizons.
- Weekly and monthly production reporting and plan vs. actual reconciliation.
- Coordinate priorities with geology, survey, and mine operations.
- Perform daily surveying duties in the absence of the mine surveyor.
- Manage and maintain databases.
- Problem‑solving, interpersonal communication, and cross‑training with other roles.
- Speak clearly and persuasively during presentations and meetings.
- Edit and present written work with proper grammar and analysis.
- Plan and organize work activities, use time efficiently, and execute realistic action plans.
- Demonstrate quality control over technical deliverables.
- Adapt to changes, manage competing demands, and respond to unexpected events.
- Maintain safety and security procedures while operating equipment.
- Education and Experience:
- B.S. in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years of underground mine engineering experience.
- Proficiency with mine planning software (Deswik preferred, Vulcan, AutoCAD).
- Experience with underground surveying techniques and ground support.
- Knowledge of autonomous mining equipment and economic analysis of mining.
- Database management system experience.

- ATF possessed clearance required; must pass pre‑employment physical and drug screen.
Employees may frequently be required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. The employee must be able to talk and hear.
Other Physical Demands- Vision - Constant: judge distances and spatial relationships, clear vision while operating machinery and navigating.
- Speaking - Occasional: communicate clearly with co‑workers and supervisors on radio and in person.
- Hearing - Occasional: must wear hearing protection while working in the mine.
Work performed underground in a remote island environment with exposure to extreme cold, wet or humid conditions, hazardous wildlife, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and explosive risks. The noise level is typically loud. Work may include nights or weekends. Regular schedule: 4 days on, 3 days off (4/3) with daily transportation from the Auke Bay dock in Juneau.
