Engineering Technician – Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) Refurbishment
THOR Solutions is actively seeking an Engineering Technician with electrical and mechanical experience to support APU refurbishment and rebuild for the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA). This temporary position starts Mid/Late May 2024 and ends Mid/Late October 2024, located full time onsite in Panama City, FL.
Responsibilities- Diagnose causes of electrical or mechanical malfunction or failure of fuel heating units and other operational equipment, and perform preventative and corrective maintenance.
- Assemble, test, and calibrate electronic circuit cards with thermocouples and other electrical equipment and components according to engineering data and knowledge of electrical principles.
- Clean and perform corrosion removal for stainless steel tanks, and apply sealants for final tank assembly.
- Modify electrical prototypes to correct functional deviations under direction of electrical engineer.
- Read and implement wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and specifications for system or equipment modifications or expansions, and perform routine installation and maintenance duties.
- Conduct and document required electrical and hydrostatic testing, and initiate modification or replacement of equipment that fails to meet acceptable operating standards.
- Support product evaluation and testing, using measuring and diagnostic devices to adjust, test, and repair equipment.
- High school diploma/GED equivalent.
- At least 4 to 9 years of relevant professional experience with electrical or mechanical technical component and system assembly, testing, and repair.
- Experience with power supplies, digital voltmeters, thermocouples, pipe fittings, basic through‑hole component and wire soldering, reading electrical and electronic schematics, torque drivers and ratchets, and working in a lab environment.
- Knowledge of MIL‑STD procedures and implementation.
- Experience conducting, overseeing, and documenting quality assurance testing in accordance with military manufacturing standards.
- Formal soldering training/certification such as J‑STD‑001 (preferred).
Eligibility for a DoD Secret security clearance is required. Candidates should possess an active or interim Secret clearance or be eligible to obtain one upon hire.
Physical DemandsRepair and refurbishment activities in an engineering lab environment may include repetitive motion, soldering in a ventilated space, and maneuvering large objects up to 50‑70 lbs with human or equipment assistance.
