The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Project Delivery Bridge Section, is looking for an Engineering Assistant 1/2/3 Flex (Drafting / Geo‑Spatial Engineer Assistant) to help us Keep Alaska Moving!
Salary Information- Engineering Assistant 1: $35.45 / hourly (OT Eligible)
- Engineering Assistant 2: $40.86 / hourly (OT Eligible)
- Engineering Assistant 3: $46.71 / hourly (OT Eligible)
The Bridge Drafting and Geo‑Spatial Engineering Assistant plays a hands‑on role in the drafting of bridge design projects and processing of information collected during bridge inspections. You'll be involved in a variety of tasks, from preparing construction plan sheets to conducting bridge inspections to assisting with the collection and processing of bridge management data. Under the guidance of licensed engineers, you'll prepare preliminary bridge layouts and detailed final plans using Auto CAD.

Working EnvironmentThe position is located within DOT&PF Headquarters in Juneau, at the DOT&PF 3‑mile building on Channel Drive. The office work environment is “casual‑professional”, team‑oriented, and friendly. Bridge inspection assignments can involve travel to all regions of Alaska. We can reach most of our bridges via major airlines and driving, but smaller aircraft, including float planes, are required to reach our remote bridge sites.
Juneau is in a temperate rainforest with steep‑sided mountains, glaciers, and deep fjords within its boundaries. Outdoor recreational opportunities are abundant, and Juneau is famous for its spectacular scenery.
- Design: Knowledge of conceptualizing, developing, producing, understanding, and using plans, models, blueprints, and maps, including the use of tools and instruments to produce precision technical drawings, working prototypes, components, or systems.
- Structural Engineering: Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and methods related to the design and analysis of complex structures using a variety of materials.
- Analysis and Assessment: Uses information technology in accessing, collecting, analyzing, maintaining, and disseminating data and information.
- Civil Engineering: Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and methods required to plan, design, construct, operate, and maintain facilities such as buildings, transportation systems, water and sanitary systems, and other public works systems.
- Database Management Systems: Knowledge of the uses of database management systems and software to control the organization, storage, retrieval, security, and integrity of data.
