Job Description

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Wildlife Conservation is recruiting for an Accounting Technician 3/4 located in Juneau or Anchorage, Alaska. This position serves as the fiscal officer for the Division of Wildlife Conservation and is responsible for providing professional level oversight for finance, grants, and contracts. The position develops and implements accounting procedures, internal controls, and ensures that accounting information is complete and accurate, financial reports are reliable, and that the Division conducts itself in accordance with applicable state and federal financial laws, regulations, and policies.

This is a flexibly staffed position.

The Working Environment

Located in Juneau, with road access to glaciers, trails, and skiing. Hybrid teleworking with office presence during the week. Periodic travel to Anchorage/Fairbanks two or three times a year and occasional trips to remote locations such as Nome.

Who We Are Looking For
  • Financial Management: prepares, justifies, administers budgets, monitors expenditures, ensures cost effectiveness, and assesses financial condition.
  • Federal Funds Processing: knowledge of methods and procedures for processing direct and reimbursable program funds, grants, loans, and credit programs.
  • Grants Management Laws, Regulations, and Guidelines: knowledge of principles, laws, regulations, policies, practices, and guidelines of grant or agreement programs.
Minimum Qualifications Accountant 3
  • Analysis and Assessment: uses information technology to access, collect, analyze, maintain, and disseminate data and information.
  • Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving: uses logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities.
  • Oral and Written Communication: effectively conveys information to individuals or groups.
  • Principles of Accounting: knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, standards, practices, and the full accounting cycle.
  • Technical Competence: uses knowledge acquired through formal training or extensive on-the-job experience.
Accountant 4
  • Analysis and Assessment: uses information technology to access, collect, analyze, maintain, and disseminate data and information.
  • Financial Analysis: knowledge of principles, methods, techniques for financial analysis, forecasting, and modeling.
  • Principles of Accounting: knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, standards, practices, and the full accounting cycle.
  • Reasoning: identifies rules, principles, or relationships to explain facts or data and draws accurate conclusions.
  • Technical Competence: uses knowledge acquired through formal training or extensive on-the-job experience.

Equivalent to those typically gained by:

  • Any combination of preparatory post-secondary education and/or progressively responsible professional level experience in accounting, budgeting, or financial management.
